Abstract: “The NASA/ASI Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE) was launched on December the 9th 2021, thereby opening the new observational window of X-ray polarimetry. Blazars, that are active galactic nuclei (AGN) where the jet is oriented towards the observer, are prime candidates for X-ray polarization observations. In principle, a high degree of X-ray polarization can be expected in high-peaked blazars (HBL) if the synchrotron radiation is emitted in an ordered magnetic field. Moreover, IXPE promises to probe the different time variability patterns of the X-ray polarization properties that are predicted by theoretical models for particle acceleration in the jets. We present “ad-hoc” simulations of IXPE observations of time-variable HBL blazars and we discuss the perspectives for exploiting the forthcoming IXPE data”.
